Meeting Notes: 

The call started at 1:05pm Eastern. The purpose of this call was to welcome the newly elected PC members, determine the PC structure for the next year, introduce the PC tool, set expectations for new PC members, and to continue program brainstorming for NANOG 51. 

Dave Meyer, as the call leader, welcomed everyone to the call, including the new PC members. Next, the organizational structure of PC for the next year was discussed, since the PC is a self organizing committee under the NANOG by-laws. Dave gave background on previous structures that have worked, including the current chair/co-chair structure. Dave and Tom each reviewed their responsibilities as PC chair / co-chair. 

Chair Responsibilities:

  • Serves as primary point of contact for the NANOG PC
  • Runs NANOG PC calls
  • Runs primary program time at NANOG meetings
  • Serves as a liaison to the NANOG Steering Committee 

Co-Chair Responsibilities:

  • Secretary for the PC (call and meeting notes)
  • Logistics coordinator for the PC (call logistics / scheduling / meeting agenda layout)
  • Liaison to the NANOG Engineering group 

The PC unanimously decided to continue with the current structure, with Dave Meyer and Tom Daly serving as PC chair / co-chair. 

The PC next discussed program brainstorming for NANOG 51. A number of ideas were brought forth, and some are listed below. Richard, from the NANOG SC, informed the PC that the SC would like to see more content around the basics of network operations, and to use the tutorial time on Sunday to provide basic operations training. 

Program Brainstorming List:

  • OpenFlow - software defined network, flowvisor
  • CTO of FCC - Panel of topics?
  • DNSSEC, Comcast DNSSEC enabled resolvers, track / tutorials
  • Tools? NOC automation, Nagios Tutorial, NOC Tools Panel, Capacity

  • Post mortem discussion similar to The Planet, Facebook, Four Square?
  • Outrageous Opinions Session

Going back to PC logistics, Dave introduce the NANOG PC tool at https://pc.nanog.org and new PC members confirmed that they could log in. Finally, the PC reviewed the expectations and responsibilities for PC members. 

PC Member Responsibilities:

    • Review talk submissions made to the NANOG PC tool and vote on content
    • Attend NANOG PC conference calls to help assemble the meeting agenda
    • Recruit NANOG content
    • Attend NANOG meetings
    • Attend SC/PC and PC lunch meetings on Monday and Tuesday during meeting weeks

 

Having successfully bootstrapped yet another NANOG PC, Dave Meyer ended the call at 1:59pm Eastern.
